Ski Touring Festival 2014

Despite the unforeseen high temperatures and relatively poor snow conditions, the excursions on Mt. Velouchi were not in the slightest obstructed, evincing once again the elegant superiority and the limitless versatility of ski touring in all winter terrains.

Particularly the snow coverage was more than enough for non-stop skiing from approx. 1800m up to 2315m, with firm and stable snow in the couloirs and summit plateau, bit icy though during early morning hours but excellent “spring corn” style by noon. The weather conditions varied from densely cloudy on Saturday 18/01 to brightly sunny on Sunday 19/01, giving clear views from Peloponnisos’ mountains to Olympus in the north.

Both evenings were full of apres-ski events, with ski movies from all around the globe, presentations of unique ski touring routes in Greece, interesting speaches, nice traditional dinners and late drinks. Ski tourers – plus a couple of crazy and skilled splitboarders – from all over Greece, from novices to experts, had the chance to meet, talk and catch up with the latest news and exchange experiences during the festival.

See you all at the next ski mountaineering event: The Snow Leopard Day in Pindos on 15-16 February 2014.
