Santorini Experience 2015
The ultimate sports experience took place in one of the most significant touristic destinations in the world, the volcanic island of Santorini, including activities such as open sea swimming and trail running.
Particularly the swimming was a 1,5 mile (2,4 km) crossing from the volcanic islet to the old harbour of Fira, in down to 600m deep, draughty and cold waters, while the consistency of swimmers ranged from passionate amateurs to Olympic and world champion professional athletes.
The run was versioned in 5, 10 and 15 km circuits, at mild uphill and downhill trails, all along the picturesque old foot path from Oia to Fira on the steep caldera ridge, offering stunning views towards the volcano and the surrounding isles, the caldera itself and through the narrow alleys of the idyllic village of Imerovigli.
The three day long event featured numerous other collateral events such kids run for the local children, introducing them to the spirit of running, a visit to local sport shop, touring at the nearby villages, relaxing and swimming, beach parties and an evening gala at the most famous winery of the island.
The experience for all participants was unique who already look forward for next year’s event!
