Pierra Creta 2014
Skiing in spring in the southernmost point of Europe, on the island of Crete in Greece, is something that very few could know. But having an international ski mountaineering race with such a success is something that no one could ever imagine!
The first PIERRA CRETA race took place on 15-16.03.2014 on Mount Psiloritis 2456m, and more than 80 participants from all over Greece, France, Sweden and Germany, plus even more ski tourers, splitboarders and hikers enjoyed the white terrain, with the finest quality of snow and the limitless views from the summit ridge to both Aegean and Libyan seas, north and south of Crete respectively.
The event was conceived and organised by the Mountaineering Club of Heraklion, supported by EOOA and Klaoudatos Ski, hosted by the notorious mountainous villages of Anogia, Zoniana and Livadia, and implemented by the hundreds of volunteers, who with their remarkable efforts, unprecedented team working, genuine hospitality, folklore festivals and local delicacies, made this event a reality memorable for ages.
Dynafit athlete Benedikt Böhm from Germany and Kristina Nordebo from Sweden got the first places in matter of time, but everyone else too completed this race with a big smile. There has never been a ski touring event before in Greece with such jubilation and enthusiasm!
